Huck Hastings It’s Alright/It’s Cool (Commitment Issues)
for Frankie Magazine

There is an understated pleasure in working with friends and if you are generous enough with your time to read through this quasi blog-meets-portfolio you’ll see a real continuity of gratitude.

It’s not about money, seriously. It’s a genuine unprecedented privilege to be invited by the people I respect to document their creative process.

I met Harrie (Huck) on the set of Hey Babe, producing the piece of work for iconoclast Genevieve Kaiser, who’s visual aesthetic is as beautifully formulaic as it is so honestly surprisingly delightful.

Frankie Magazine’s August/September issue asked for a Q&A, so as part of his Friday ritual we strapped on some skates and cut lines around the Macquarie Rink.

Sydney’s Huck Hastings has delivered an upbeat and warm love song for his third track of the year, with the release of ‘It’s Alright/It’s Cool (Commitment Issues)’.

Backed with summery strums and a far cry from the haunting melancholy of previous single ‘Anthem for the End of the World’, Hastings sings about never being able to commit to events or socialising with friends in case his lover wants to spend time with him.

“I can’t commit to anything else but you/Whatever you wanna do, it’s alright, it’s cool,” he sings on the chorus, speaking of the most seemingly insignificant parts of romance like “watching the ABC” and ordering “a vegan pizza from Gigi’s”.

'It's Alright/It's Cool (Commitment Issues)' comments on the effect love has on even the most mundane activities – it's the heart eyes emoji in a song.

The jangly guitar gives off some serious '60s beach vibes while Huck's vocals travel along the restrained, lo-fi indie production.

'Hey Babe' and its Wes Anderson-esque clip arrived in October 2019. Follow-ups 'Soft - An Epilogue' and 'Anthem For The End Of The World' enjoyed success and airplay and will feature on Huck's sophomore EP, out later this year. It features candid indie-pop tunes exploring self-worth and imperfections.

Huck has even opened for the likes of Olympia and graced the TedXYouth stage. - Frooty.com.au
